This is not a ploy to sell more!</font></font><font color="#FFFF00"><font size=+1></font></font> <p><font color="#FFFF00"><font size=+1>We thought we d share with you the story of scarcity behind some of our favorite spheres. With rocks and minerals, there is never any guarantee of a steady supply. Someone may find and clean out a small pocket of a certain material, other mines may seem to have an inexhaustible supply and are mined as if they do, only to find they don t.</font></font><font color="#FFFF00"><font size=+1></font></font> <p><font color="#FFFF00"><font size=+1>Yet, there are oftentimes other reasons a mineral goes off the market. In the case of the beautiful purple Sugilite for instance, this South African/Namibian mineral is a by-product of manganese mining. The primary sugilite mine is no longer profitable to produce manganese, so the mine is being closed.</font></font><font color="#FFFF00"><font size=+1></font></font> <p><font color="#FFFF00"><font size=+1>One of our very favorites, Louisiana Opal, is a casualty of a war of economics. The supply is still abundant but the people who leased the rights from its owner, a major U.S. paper producing corp-oration, were unable to make it profitable enough to pay the licensing rights and the production at the same time. As a result of the dispute, the property owner has closed it down to all future mining.</font></font><font color="#FFFF00"><font size=+1></font></font> <p><font color="#FFFF00"><font size=+1>Gibeon Meteorites are the latest to become scare. Until recently, large chunks of meteorites were plentiful on the Southern African landscape. In fact, the world s largest meteorite is a national monument in Namibia the Hoba Meteorite. But no one is finding chunks in the desert or unearthing them in shallow diggings any longer the easy pickings are gone.</font></font><font color="#FFFF00"><font size=+1></font></font> <p><font color="#FFFF00"><font size=+1>Other minerals have just run their course. In Russia, for instance, the era of the once-plentiful charoite is coming to a close. Seraphenite is already gone. In Argentina, the gorgeous stalactitic rhodochrosite s singular cave is depleted.</font></font><font color="#FFFF00"><font size=+1></font></font> <p><font color="#FFFF00"><font size=+1>The Western U.S. has many minerals that are just lovely memories.
